January 12 – Kyoto
At the “2nd Capoeira Exchange Meeting” organized by Kyoto’s Capoeira group Kyoto Capoeira Academy(KCA-Capoeira Gerais), Contramestre Kosuke  was invited as a guest teacher. Members of the group participated in this exchange event, designed to bring together practitioners beyond group and style boundaries.

Nzinga Kyoto hosted the “3rd Capoeira Exchange Meeting,” creating a space to learn and enjoy Capoeira together across different groups and styles.

Performed at World Down Syndrome Day @ Kyoto 2025 in front of Kyoto City Hall. (World Down Syndrome Day)

 

April 5 – Tokyo
Held an event commemorating the 136th anniversary of the birth of Mestre Pastinha. Produced Japanese subtitles for a documentary film about Mestre Pastinha. "Viva Pastinha! Uma vida pela Capoeira"

May 24 – Ikeda, Osaka
Conducted a special Capoeira class for elementary and junior high school students at Smile Factory (ongoing since 2018).

 

May 25 – Kyoto
Performed at the local festival “Kumano Matsuri” at Kyoto University’s Kumano Dormitory.

July 17–20 – São Paulo, Brazil
Participated in the 30th anniversary event of the head group in São Paulo. Kosuke representative of the Group Kyoto and Osaka, was appointed Mestre.

 

August 30 – Oku-Noto, Ishikawa
Performed at the “Keron no Chiisana Mori” Forest Music Festival as part of Noto earthquake reconstruction support activities.

Performed at the summer edition of “Kumano Matsuri,” a local festival at Kyoto University’s Kumano Dormitory.

Hosted a special event welcoming Mestre Cobramansa.

Held the first-ever Roda as Nzinga Osaka and concluded the year with a joint end-of-year Roda together with the group in Kyoto.

January 14 – Kyoto

Conducted a special Capoeira class for elementary and junior high school students at Smile Factory.

 

March 8 – Salvador, Bahia (Brazil)
Celebration of Grupo Nzinga’s 29th anniversary. Contramestre Kosuke participated in a roda in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, and also taught classes.

March 18 – Osaka
Launched the first Capoeira class in Osaka, which later became the foundation of Nzinga Osaka.

 

April 20 – Kyoto
As part of the Earth Day Kyoto 2024 / KYOTOGRAPHIE special program, Nzinga Kyoto performed a Berimbau Orchestra and Capoeira Angola before the talk event by Davi Kopenawa, leader of the Brazilian Indigenous Yanomami people.

Performed at the “Sakyo Wonderland! Spring Festival 2024” in front of Heian Shrine.

 

May 3–5 – Kyoto
Held the 9th Anniversary Event of Grupo Nzinga Kyoto, featuring workshops in Capoeira Angola, Capoeira, and Butoh; discussions on discrimination issues in Brazil; a lecture by the Kyoto City Gender Equality Center; and a roda.

Led a Capoeira experience workshop for third-grade students at Yosei Elementary School, focusing on multicultural coexistence.

Performed in an outreach class at Yosei Elementary School titled “Let’s Experience Afro-Brazilian Musical Culture!”

Participated with a performance in the “Polka Dot Dance Festival,” a special event related to World Down Syndrome Day.

Performed with the Capoeira Berimbau Orchestra at “Fête de la Musique” at the National Museum of Ethnology.

Participated in a performance at Kyoto Seika University for the event “Ensaio – Afro-Brazilian Gathering: 90 Minutes Vibrating with Live Sound,” organized by the Department of Popular Culture, Music Course (Rhythm Orchestra Class).

 

August
Invited Treinela Leika(FICA-SEATTLE) from the United States to host a roundtable discussion titled “How Capoeira Builds Community,” as well as workshops and a roda.

 

November
Invited mestre Cobramansa, to hold workshops, lectures, and a roda.

 

November – Kyoto
Contramestre Kosuke participated in the “9th VIVA Pastinha and 2nd LGBTQ+ Gathering” Capoeira event held in São Paulo, Brazil, and also conducted a workshop on site.

2022

During the COVID-19 pandemic, classes were gradually reopened in stages, and regular lessons are currently being conducted.

Invited as a guest instructor to the event “Gender Equality and Body Expression in Brazil,” featuring a mini Capoeira workshop and talk (organized by UniLibre / Sayaka Waki). Contramestre Kosuke introduced the World Capoeira Women’s Forum “Chamada de Mulher.”

Celebration of the 25th anniversary of Grupo Nzinga’s head branch, marking 25 years since the group’s founding.

Held the “3rd Ginga Nzinga” international exchange event, inviting three mestres(Mestra Janja, Mestra Paulinha and Mestre Poloca) from Brazil for programs in Kyoto, Toyama, and Ishikawa.
In collaboration with Wings Kyoto (Kyoto City Gender Equality Foundation), also hosted the co-organized program:
“Women’s Bodies as Spaces for Acquiring Social and Physical Agency – Capoeira and Butoh.”

Performed at the Okazaki World Music Festa 2016 in Kyoto as the Capoeira Berimbau Orchestra.

Held the “2nd Ginga Nzinga” international exchange event, inviting Mestre Poloca from Bahia/Brazil.
The program focused on the study of NZINGA and Capoeira Angola.

 

November – Ohara, Kyoto
Participated with a performance in the “Odoru Ohara Ongakusai” (Dancing Ohara Music Festival), with mestre Poloca.

2015

May 5 – Kyoto
Founded the Kyoto branch of Grupo Nzinga. Regular Capoeira Angola classes and activities for both children and adults began in Kyoto City.

2014

September – Tokyo & Kyoto
Held the “1st Ginga Nzinga” international exchange event, inviting three mestres(Mestra Janja, Mestra Paulinha and Mestre Poloca) from Bahia/Brazil. This marked the first international exchange program organized in Tokyo and Kyoto.
